Community Garden

The Ridley Grove Community Garden is now an official Butterfly Site, and has been awarded with a plaque from the Butterfly Conservation SA (BCSA). The BCSA had two speakers at the Garden's recent Community Fair, and were so impressed with the site, considering it one of the best sites in urban AdelaideCongratulations to all that have been involved to make this a truly tremendous community place!

Our lovely garden has also received a commendation from the Urban Development Institute of South Australia in the community development category. This is something the Westwood community can be very proud of.

Recently, within the garden there has been observed some less common native butterflies along the indigenous plant trail at number 66. Being listed as an official SA butterfly site will mean more visitors are attracted to the garden, along with the butterflies!

Gardening Workshops have been continuing in earnest over the spring period and have been extremely well attended. Many thanks and commendation goes to Karen Shaw for running a well organised "Make a salad and herb plant box" workshop and conducting other workshops that will follow. It is bringing a great variety of people to the garden, with new visitors attendingWith assistance through governments Fruit & Veg grant there will be more workshops conducted at the garden. Drop by at 66 Ridley Grove and have a look on the new Community Noticeboard for further information and upcoming events.

A special thankyou too to the helpers on Tuesday afternoons with the students from Ridley Grove School. The teacher feedback has been that the children have really enjoyed coming down to the gdn for the workshops. It has been very rewarding having school students come each week during term and thrive on the new information they are absorbing with their involvement at the garden, and the seeds of a great community connection being sown!

Westwood would like to thank the tireless efforts of Alan Shepard, RGC garden coordinator and the support and contributions of each and every garden volunteer, the garden steering committee members, all local business and school contributions, and Reverend Kaye and the Woodville Gardens Uniting Church.
